Castanon Brothers were close!

Updated: Sep 5, 2020

WBy Analiz González The Brownsville Herald July 11, 2004 — Robert Castañon Jr. likened his relationship with his three brothers to that of a four-piece China set. “We were very close brothers,” Castañon said. But on Monday, the set became incomplete. His younger brother Arturo Castañon, 45, died in a car accident on his way back from a trip to Aguascalientes, Mexico. Arturo Castañon was a pharmaceutical representative for the corporation Schering Plow. Before that he was a math teacher at Rivera High School. But Robert Castañon Jr. said he was more than a teacher. “He was a friend to his students because he would give them advice about the real world,” Robert Castañon Jr. said. “Students respected him, even the rebellious ones.” Arturo Castañon’s wife Rosalinda agrees. “He was so well liked by everyone that knew him,” she said. “He had a lot of friends and he was the best thing that ever happened to me.” Rosalinda said he told her he would love her “until the last breath of air left his body.” “He kept his promise,” she said after leaving his burial Friday.

Arturo was born in East Chicago, Ind. on Sept. 19, 1958, to Roberto Castañon and Catarina Castañon. He was survived by his parents Roberto Castañon and Catarina Castañon, his wife Rosalinda Castañon; two daughters Jasmin Castañon Gonzalez, 11, and Victoria Castañon Cavazos, 7; one son Arturo Castañon Garcia Jr., 3, and one stepson Joe Izaak Lucio Garcia, 7; three brothers Victor Castañon, Roberto Castañon Jr., and Hector Castañon; and nephews Victor Castañon, Christopher Castañon, and Robert Nicholas Castañon; nieces Leslie Jenice Castañon, Robin Castañon, and Jordan Castañon, and various other relatives all of Brownsville and Aguascalientes. He was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church. agonzalez@link.freedom.com
